Motorhomes campers etc. are complex vehicles requiring many skill-sets to look after them properly and to support you, their proud owners. Servicing is important to maintain functionality, value and most of all, safety. Often specialist vehicle insurance policies and after-market warranties call for an annual service to be carried out to meet Terms and Conditions in meeting any future claim. This will likely include the habitation area as well as the base vehicle. To help you choose the right service for you, here is a breakdown of the aspects covered by the various services as well as some other options to enhance your ownership:

Habitation Service
A full habitation service will check the correct functionality, fit and safety of the 12 volt (ELV) and, 240 volt ac (LV) Electrical Systems, Gas System, Water System, Ventilation, Fire and Safety, Exterior Structure/ Bodywork. It includes a full damp ingress check and a Carbon Monoxide (CO) test carried out with all room sealed appliances working (Fridge, heater, boiler etc.). Full, detailed reports produced and the content reviewed with the owner.

Full Damp Inspection
A full damp inspection will take damp readings over the entire interior of the Motorhome or Camper where accessible without the removal of any panel or fixed appliance. This will be done with industry standard test equipment and a detailed report showing all readings will be produced and reviewed with the owner. Note that although van-conversions by their very nature are more resilient to damp ingress, they can and do still leak around any sunroof, window, water filler point or external vent, indeed anywhere where the converter has breached the metal skin of the vehicle.
Appliance Services
A habitation service does not include a service of individual appliances, only a functional check with a visual inspection. Occasionally however, appliances do need a service to clean jets, burners flues etc. to return them to full efficiency. The Leisure Vehicle Artisan can service all makes and models of installed appliances.
"We were in a campsite near Trowbridge Wiltshire when on our first morning in our first outing in our motorhome our fridge packed up! Not knowing what to do we called the dealers who gave us Ian Blundell's number.He did an over-the-phone diagnosis but said he needed to check it visually. This he did later that day and his diagnosis proved to be right. Ian ordered the offending part from the dealer which he fitted the very next day after it arrived. The fridge was now working normally and no food was wasted and our holiday was only disrupted for a minimal amount of time. Gas Safety Check
A gas safety check will cover all of the LPG system from the point of connection to a bottle (inc. the bottle where it is a fixed installation) to all appliances. All appliances will be checked for correct operation including all flame failure/supervisory devices. The system as a whole will have a “Gas tightness” test to check for leaks and finally a habitation area carbon Monoxide (CO) check will be carried out whilst all room sealed appliances are operating (Fridge, heater, boiler etc.).
Alde Heating Systems
Being an Alde Certified Engineer, The Leisure Vehicle Artisan can fault-find, service, replace the Glycol fluid and carry out system upgrades to all Leisure Vehicles fitted with an Alde system, including those that are still under the manufacturers guarantee period, without breaking their Terms and Conditions.
Vehicle Systems Understanding
Are you having trouble understanding how all the systems operate on your newly acquired pride and joy? Are the appliance handbooks missing? Need someone to patiently explain how they all operate? Call The Leisure Vehicle Artisan to assist you in getting the most out of your vehicle. You have invested heavily in your Motorhome, so it makes sense to understand it and use its facilities to the full. Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question!
"Ian turned up as arranged (had to wait six weeks, but that in itself i count as a positive). He carried out a full habitation check in a diligent, thorough and professional manner. Provided a full detailed damp report, comprehensive inspection sheet, gas safety certificate and observation sheet listing any remedials required (fortunately fairly minor). Autotrail Media Systems
Having trouble with your Autotrail Media System? Or wish to upgrade it? The Leisure Vehicle artisan will work with the nominated Autotrail Media System official dealer to repair, replace and improve your system. Video and sound outputs from satellite receivers can usually be connected to the media system enhancing its functionality. Drop-down monitors can be replaced with HD versions and head units (the radio/CD/DVD in the fascia) can be upgraded giving significantly improved sound, vision and a faster user interface. Even a version where the satellite navigation system can become a unit that will route in accordance with the vehicles length, height, weight etc. is available. All these will keep the original factory reversing camera working. Please enquire about this service.
"Ian was very helpful and knowledgeable when I asked him for help fault finding and repairing the reversing camera on my Auto Trail Savannah Motorhome. He travelled to the site where I keep the vehicle which was a great bonus having a mobile engineer able to come out to me. In no time the fault was traced and put right. He also fitted my new Double Din stereo/Sat Nav which now looks great on the dash.

Ian fitted a new electronic (12v/230v distribution) system for us to replace an old, broken and no longer made model supplied with our motorhome when new 15 plus years ago. Absence of an original wiring diagram and Lockdown provided challenges and a delay but all is now done. Scrupulous attention to social distancing and hygiene measures made us very comfortable.
